Jay Lethal Biography


Jay Lethal, is an American Professional Wrestler currently signed to Ring of Honor and is a former Ring of Honor World TV Champion. Jay Lethal is best known for his time in Total Non Stop Action Wrestling where he was a 6-time X-Division Champion and 1-time World Tag Champion with Consequences Creed.

Jay began wrestling in 2001 at Jersey All Pro Wrestling where he became a dominant member of the JAPW roster by 2005 after winning the JAPW Lightweight Championship and the JAPW Television Championship within the space of two years. In 2005, Jay began challenging repeatedly for the JAPW Heavyweight Championship, which he won in late May. He later went on to form a team with Azrieal for a year, winning the JAPW tag titles before dropping them to The Latin American Xchange in 2007.

Ring of Honor (2003 – 2006)

On January 11th, 2003, Jay made his debut in Ring of Honor as Hydro, a member of Special K. In May, Jay got offered the chance to join Alex Shelley’s Generation Next stable, but opted to stick with Special K. In 2004, Jay, under the advice of Samoa Joe, left Special K and went back to calling himself Jay Lethal. On March 5th, though unable to see from one eye, Jay defeated John Walters to win the ROH Pure Championship.

TNA (2005 – 2011)

Jay caught the attention of TNA producer, Jeremy Borash who offered him a spot on the roster. On December 15th, 2005, Jay debuted for the company against to Samoa Joe. Jay re-appeared on February 18th, 2006 winning a spot on Team USA, the defending champions of the 2006 World X cup. The tournament went through much of the beginning of the year, before Chris Sabin defeated Team Canada’s Petey Williams to win the World X Cup for Team USA. For most of the year, Jay feuded with a plethora of X-Division talent before being recruited in December by Kevin Nash for the Paparazzi Championship Series.

He later debuted the character “Black Machismo” which was a remixed version of Macho Man Randy Savage. He won the X-Division Championship at Slammiversary, defeating Chris Sabin. Jay would feud with more X-Division talent, winning the title for another time before moving on top the tag team division where he formed Lethal Consequences with Consequences Creed. The team would become a 1-time tag team champion before Creed was released from his contract in early 2010.

In 2010, Jay started a feud with Ric Flair, where Jay also picked up a great impression of Ric Flair. After the feud with Flair, Jay would go on to win the X-Division title again, before losing to Robbie E then re-gaining it again for the last time.

Ring of Honor Return (2011 – Present)

Lethal would be making his return to ROH on June 26, where he defeated Mike Bennett. On August 8th, ROH announced that Jay had signed with the promotion, and later at the August 13th TV tapings, Jay won the ROH Television Championship from El Generico. Jay has also wrestled for other independent promotions, such as Lucha Libre USA.
